Royals In The Broadsheets

These days the antics of Reading Football Club attracts the interest of the broadsheet papers every weekend, here is what a couple of them had to say about the draw at Sheffield United.

The Guardian

Reading's relentless march towards the Premiership continues, though with a touch more ruthlessness this might have been a leap and not merely a step in that direction. Having spent much of the match trying to contain a vibrant Sheffield United, the Championship leaders were presented with a wonderful chance to pilfer all three points when Mark Halsey awarded a penalty in the last minute after Paddy Kenny upended Bobby Convey.

Telegraph

Paddy Kenny produced an injury-time penalty save from Dave Kitson to rescue Sheffield United from defeat in a game that they should really have won to end Reading's 32-game unbeaten run in the Championship.

Second versus first fell short of producing a classic Championship encounter at Bramall Lane last night but generated no shortage of high-octane tension as the leaders passed up the opportunity to extend their lead when Dave Kitson failed to convert a last-minute penalty.

The Times

Steve Coppell popped his head back round the press-room door last night to ask for the code to open the exit door. The Reading manager may not know his way out of Bramall Lane, but he has the key to the Barclays Premiership after this result.
