Royals Heading to Europe?!

The Premier League may make depressing reading for Reading fans at the moment, but thanks to another league, the Royals could amazingly be playing UEFA Cup football next season.

Reading, third from bottom in the Premier League, are currently sixth in the Fair Play League.

The extra UEFA cup spot will go to the country with the best fair play record, and with England currently top of the rankings, it could well be heading this way.

Should England receive the extra spot due to fair play, the place will go to the highest placed team in the Premier League fair play table, that hasn't already qualified for Europe.

Reading are currently behind Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United, all of whom stand a very good chance of qualifying for Europe through either league placing or cup competitions.

A random UEFA Cup qualification would certainly give Reading fans something to smile about after a pretty gloomy season so far.

Don't get your hopes up just yet though, as judging by Steve Coppell's previous qualms on qualifying for Europe, we could well see a much dirtier Reading side in the upcoming weeks.
