'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Arry Looking to Nick Shorey

Not content with the surprise swoop for Reading legend Glen Little, Harry Redknapp has now set his sights on England full-back Nicky Shorey.

Despite not making a formal transfer request, Shorey has made no secret of his desire to leave the club and spent much of last season sulking after not being allowed to move to West Ham.

After a poor season, interest in Shorey has begun to wane, but it seems Pompey are ready to take a gamble on the full-back twice capped by England.

Redknapp said, 'Nicky Shorey is a player I like. He's a good player and a good footballer.

'We're looking for players who would give us something a bit different and he would do that. He would give us something different to Hermann Hreidarsson. Having said that, Hermann did a fantastic job for us and was brilliant for me.

'But we are going to need a squad and we are going to need cover. We are going to be playing more games than ever next season and it's going to be a lot tougher for us.`

It won`t come as a shock to Reading fans if Shorey does leave, but with Little already gone and Harper and Sonko seemingly on their way out, the rebuilding process at the Madejski Stadium could be more of a challenge than initially anticipated.

Portsmouth have looked a good side over the last couple of seasons, and I have always enjoyed watching there progress, especially under Harry Redknapp, there is no doubt that Nicky Shorey would add to that team, and it is clear that Reading is going to be a treasure chest for premiership teams this summer. I mean there is Doyle, Shorey, Lita, Kitson, Hannemahn (or however you spell it). Pompey could also get Hannemahn (or however you spell it) as cover, and long term replacement to David James, because he is a quality 'keeper.

I don't mind if he goes, his heart was clearly not in it last season after his brief stint in the england Squad. Only if we get a decent return on him going! Maybe a team like Portsmouth would help his attacking nature.

If Nick or any other Reading Zero to Hero wants to leave, let them, Steve needs committed players to get us back into the premiership..

'greed. It makes me laugh the likes of Harper and Shorey not wanting to play in the c'ship, they should remember where they came from. Kitson linked to a £2.5mill move is an absolute joke, it Darren Bent went for 15m or whatever it was, then Kits is at least worth 10! I just want the players who are leaving to hurry up and leave so we can start rebuilding the squad.

I think everyone in football apart from Spurs knew that Bent was only worth a very small fraction of that. Whats happening with your keeper Hannerman?
