The Royals have just been relegated and speculation is rife surrounding the future of their star players. In a time like this, you need your chairman to fill the fans with hope and inspiration.
Sadly said chairman is John Madejski.
Madejski isn't renowned for his well timed comments, but at a time where the club really needs a leader to hammer in the ambition of returning to the top flight, Madejski has got it all wrong again.
The Reading chairman has said he wants the club to return to the top flight, but purely so he can sell up.
A man who is desperate to sell, is hardly likely to put in the investment that is needed to return to the Premier League, but Madejski obviously feels the club can do it on the cheap.
He said, 'My resolve now is even greater because we have something to fight for - getting back into the Premiership, which is great.
'As you know, when we were in the Premiership my ambition was to sell the club. Now we are not there my ambition is to get back up there, so I can sell the club.
'Everything is for sale. The Premiership is the place to be if you are selling. I have a mission now to get back up there.'
As much as John Madejski has done for the club, it is very possible that the Royals won't get near a chance to return to the Premier League until he moves on.
