22 year old O'Dea has been a regular in the Celtic squad but has moved to the Madejksi Stadium on a short term loan deal to gain some valuable first team experience. Infact he signed a new three year contract just hours before his loan move was confirmed, and he clearly see's his future at Parkhead.
He is an Irish under 21 international, that has also been included in the full squads, and has also been captain of Celtic in the past most recently when coming on as a half time sub in the Champions League play off second leg against Arsenal last Wednesday, a game Celtic lost.
Brendan Rodgers was delighted to have secured the loan signing of O'Dea ahead of a number of Championship clubs and had this to say to the official Reading website,
'Darren is a very talented young defender and I think he will do really well for us. I'm delighted to bring in a player of his quality. I have known him since he was 14 and tracked his career since.
'He has just signed a new deal at Celtic and was very keen to come here and play. A number of clubs were chasing him and for him to choose us is great.
'He will be looking to get more games under his belt, but he also has good experience, including games in the Champions League. He has also been a captain at Celtic, a massive club with a rich history.'
