With the Republic already assured of a play off place manager Giovani Trapotoni chose to rest a number of first choice players and gave the remainder of his squad a run out. Hunt started upfront and played 68 minutes of the game but was left disappointed as the game ended in a goal less draw. Shane Long and Darren O'Dea were not even on the bench, but ex Royal Stephen Hunt also started the game alongside his brother.
The Irish will play their 2 legged play off in November and a win will see them qualify for the World Cup.
Meanwhile in Liechtenstein Simon Church started his second game in a week for Wales as they won 2-0, and Church almost got himself on the scoresheet a couple of times. Unfortunatly Wales haven't qualified for the World Cup but Church will be pleased to have been involved in a number of their qualifying games and will look forward to the campaign for Euro 2012.
Elsewhere, Scott Davies played for the Ireland under 21's on Tuesday night in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland, Brynjar Gunnarsson played in Iceland's 1-0 friendly win over South Africa and Gylfi Suigurdsson played a full 90 minutes in Iceland's under 21 win over Northern Ireland.
