'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sidwell wins Vital Reading player of the decade.

We have been asking you to vote on who you thought was the Royals player of the decade, and there were plenty of contenders but the winner by just 1% was Steve Sidwell. The former Arsenal midfielder joined the Royals in January 2003 and went on to play a key role in the clubs rise to the Premier League.


His partnership with James Harper in the centre of midfield was a key component of the 2005/2006 championship winning side and was voted in the Championship team of the year for 2 years in a row. He scored 29 goals in 168 appearances during his spell at the club.


After one season with the Royals in the Premiership, he left after his contract came to an end and joined Chelsea. He is still in the Premier League and is an important part of the squad at Aston Villa, who are chasing a Champions League place.


Kevin Doyle was in second place and goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann in third. Vital Reading will be bringing you our team of the decade, so don't forget to see if you agree and if you don't - Let us know!!
