I'll be honest Shane Long has never been my favourite player, far from it, and I don't think he has ever put in consistant performances for the club. Ok so there has been some excellent one off performances - the title winning day at home to Derby or even last season's win against Norwich at Carrow Road - but never an extended run of decent displays.
The last three games though he has looked like a different player, including the defeat at Sheffield United when I thought he played well, and Brian McDermott appears to have installed some confidence in the Irish striker. His well taken goal at Doncaster was his second goal in two games and he now has a perfect platform to go on and put in an extended run of form and as one of the 'old guard' he could be vital in moving us away from the relegation zone and the security of mid table.
With a new baby on the way, Long may finally start maturing into a decent player and step out of the shadow of Kevin Doyle.
