McDermott leading Kebe towards the away fans after the fantastic win at Palace was one of the highlights of a wonderful evening at Selhurst Park, and our new gaffer clearly knows how to get the best out of the enigmatic Malian winger. Despite odd flashes of brilliance, neither Coppell or Rodgers has been able to get him performing on a regular basis and although its early stages, McDermott has.
He was full of praise for Kebe in his post match press conference, and told Readingfc.co.uk, "I thought Jimmy was outstanding tonight, he might have come of age tonight. I told him afterwards, that`s what English football is all about and that performance is what your all about."
In his previous role as Chief Scout, he played a large part in bringing Kebe to the club and he also spoke of the first time he saw him play. "The first time I saw him play was for Bolougne on a wet Friday night and he was outstanding. That was one of the reason`s we brought him toour club."
The 883 travelling fans, who were in fine voice throughout, were also praised by McDermott and he feels they are buying into what he is trying to do at the club. "We had a really good following and they`ve had a great night out, I think the fans are buying into the cause and they want to be part of it."
Its fair to say that any doubts about McDermott`s ability to manage the Royals on a permanent basis have been blown away and in his first month in charge he could well be in line for the manager of the month award. Lets hope it continues….
