'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McDermott - 'It makes such a difference'

Middlesbrough away is one of our longest away trips of the season and Brian McDermott appreciated the effort made by the travelling 375 loyal Royals who made it to the Riverside.

He told the Official Site'When you get there and there are 30-50 fans just waiting to applaud you off the bus it makes such a difference.'

Not too many of those supporters would have flown to the North East, something the players did on Friday and McDermott praised chairman John Madejski for allowing the squad to fly, instead of making the 6 hour trip on the coach.

'We flew up on Friday, the chairman gave us that opportunity. We didn't have a 5 or 6 hour journey on the road and it just makes you appreciate the supporters who made it up here.'

With performances improving all the time and a great bond between fans and players, surely the number of travelling supporters will only increase between now and the end of the season.
