'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Royals move early in transfer market

With the season only just ended and a busy summer of international football ahead, I was expecting to wait a long time to find out news of the Royals dealings in the transfer market. However manager Brian McDermott has acted quickly to replace Ryan Bertrand, who has returned to Chelsea destined for bigger and better things, with the signing of Marcus Williams from Championship rivals Scunthorpe.

Williams has been at Glanford Park since he was 16 years old and has made nearly 200 appearances for the Iron. He was out of contract though and turned down an offer to stay and instead has opted to move South to Berkshire and sign on at RG2.

The attacking left back was clearly delighted to have sealed his move to the Madejski Stadium and he told the Official Site, 'It's brilliant to be here and it's a great feeling for me to sign for such a great club with lots of potential.'

It's great to see McDermott acting so quickly to fill the very big void left by Bertrand and we have signed a player with a massive amount of potential and someone who will fit in with the mould of the majority of our squad. He is also a free transfer, which keeps Mr Madejski happy, and someone who has clearly been on our rador for a number of years.

Good luck Williams and well done McDermott!
