Tour ends in defeat

The Royals ended the tour on a disappointing note after going down to a 1-0 defeat to Slovenian top flight side NK Celje on Tuesday night. Brian McDermott fielded a strong side and, for the first time this pre season, in his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation with Shane Long as a loan striker.

However we couldn't break through a resiliant Celje defence and went down to a second half goal form Gorazd Zajc. The home side also ended the game with ten men after Dragutin Golob was sent off for 2 yellow cards, both for fouls on Hal Robson Kanu.

The players will now fly home and face Wycombe, Wolves and Southampton next week in the build up to the opening game of the season against Scunthorpe.

Can't read too much into the result, and players must be tired after 10 days hard work in the heat.
