Brian McDermott has confirmed that the Royals have taken former Aston Villa, Derby and Sheffield Utd midfielder Lee Hendrie on trial. The 33 year old will spend the next two to three weeks training with the club in a bid to earn a permanent contract.
He has been without a club since his release from Sheffiel Utd in the summer and spent the end of last season on loan at League One side Brighton.
McDermott told Reading Post, 'We`ll have a look at Lee over a period of two or three weeks. He`s very fit and hungry. If you put this boy in the right position then something could happen. I`ve got a good feeling about this and I hope it goes well for him. He`s a player who plays off the striker and in between the lines. He feels he can play at this level still and he could be quite exciting for us.'
It sounds like he is being lined up as a replacement for Sigurdsson, with McDermott also insisting he wants to sign one more striker and is waiting to see who becomes available from the Premier League teams after they all name their 25 man squads on Wednesday. Rumours are he is interested in Simon Cox, or Luke Moore, from West Brom. Both face an anxious wait to see if they will be involved for the Baggies.
