'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mackail-Smith was mystery man

Brian McDermott admitted that he tried to sign one more striker on transfer deadline day but couldn't complete the deal in time. There have been a number of rumours about who that striker was, but it is believed to be Craig Mackail-Smith according to the Reading Chronicle.

We tried to sign the striker before the close of the loan window last March, and McDermott as in for him again this time around. However there was not enough time to complete any deal when Posh turned down our initial request.

With Shane Long, Simon Church and Noel Hunt all fighting for one place upfront, with Hal Robson Kanu and Nicholas Bignall also available, McDermott is happy with hat he has for now. When the loan market opens again though he may make more moves, with West Brom's Luke Moore an option. He was left of the Baggies 25 man squad and will be looking to get out and play some first team football.
