Matt Mills sending off on Tuesday was our third red card in three games, adding to the one Zurab Kizhanishvili picked up on Saturday and Brian Howard the weekend before that. All three have come out and said it was a case of poor refereeing, but are we just guilty of bad discipline?
Ok so not one of the reds have been for a shocking tackle and all three have been debatable, but surely it's time to stop winging and keep our discipline on the pitch?
Matt Mills is one of my favourite players, I have regular stuck up for him including during 'Swear Gate' against QPR last season, but his second yellow was plain stupidity. When already on a booking why would anyone in their right mind body check a player on the half way line? It's not as if the guy was going through on goal either, he was chasing down their left wing - the worst that could have happened was he crossed the ball unless he does something pretty special that not many on show on Tuesday looked capable of. The worst case of poor discipline of the three reds for me.
Zurab was unlucky, it didn't look like a foul on the Barnsley player on Saturday, let alone a yellow and he can be the only one to claim he was unlucky. But whenever you make a tackle in the final third of the pitch you have to make sure you win the ball or you stand a chance of getting a booking, and he didn't, but that could be harsh on the Georgian.
Howard's red was a poor tackle and there is no use him saying he would have appealed if he had a different angle of video footage, if you jump into a tackle with two feet then you are asking for trouble. Bad luck? I don't think so.
Despite the fact that playing with ten men seems to favour us, I hope Brian McDermott is having a word with his players as there are only so many times you can play and win with ten men.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree, or have all three reds been a case of bad luck?
