Long scores for Ireland

Long scores for Ireland

Irish striker Long was selected to start alongside Kevin Doyle for the Republic on Wednesday night in the friendly against Norway. Within 5 minutes he had won and converted a penalty, and his performance earned him the man of the match award.

Boss Giovanni Trappatoni said afterwards, 'Until now we have had Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle, now we have another!'

Also on international duty midweek was Zurab Kizhanishvili, who guided Georgia to a 2-1 win over Slovenia.

Young winger Jordan Obita made his debut for England under 18's on Tuesday evening and he scored and set up another as they beat Poland 3-0. He only came on as a half time sub as well.
