Reading boss wants end to Long saga

Reading manager Brian McDermott has spoken of his dismay over the consistent rumours and echo's over the possible transfer of striker Shane Long and wants the ongoing transfer saga to come to an end.

McDermott told the Reading Post: "We have had plenty of interest from the Premier League, but we have had no offer as yet.'

The Royals boss went onto add: "What I expect, which generally happens, is that someone will make an offer and then you will get five or six Premier League clubs making bids. Hopefully they won`t leave it too late if they want to do that."

This would also dismiss the rumours that Leicester made a bid for Long a few days ago, but Sven is reportedly still keen on the Irishman and is considering a bid.

Long's contract is due to run out next summer and the Reading board are not keen on losing him for nothing next year, so could potentially force the transfer, with West Brom and Newcastle still interested.

McDermott also didn't rule out bringing someone in if Long was to leave, although he said it would not be a direct replacement.

The former Slough boss added: "If there is someone out there we want to bring in then we will try that. We couldn`t replace Shane like for like."
