Captain displeased with Pompey performance

Reading captain Jobi McAnuff was not happy with the Royals' performance against Portsmouth last night, claiming they didn't deserve anything from the game.

A Dave Kitson winner inflicted Reading's first loss of the season, while Portsmouth got their first 3 points on the board.

McAnuff told BBC Berkshire: 'It was tough. We didn't play well, particularly in the first half, and we didn't deserve anything,'

The 29-year old went onto add: 'We didn't have that spark about us that we did on Saturday [2-0 victory over Leicester] which was disappointing.'

Royals boss Brian McDermott also wasn't particularly impressed with the performance. 'In the second half we lost a bad goal from our point of view,' said the Reading manager. 'We kept going and we could have nicked a draw.'

He was also disappointed with a refereeing decision that didn't go Reading's way, when replays clearly showed the ball touched Jason Pearce's outstretched arm in the penalty box.

'We had a penalty shout at the end when he handballed it. It's never easy to come to Portsmouth and get a win. It was two honest teams having a go at each other.'
