Royals close to signing Le Fondre

Reading are close to completing the signing of striker Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham, for a fee believed to be around £350k with add-ons.

The Rotherham striker known as 'Alfie' is set to travel down to Berkshire today to complete his medical while his soon-to-be team-mates are in action at Hull.

Le Fondre, 24, has been recognised as one of the Football League's deadliest strikers, having the best scoring record for the previous two seasons.

The former Stockport County player had one year left on his current deal and McDermott has been an admirer of the forward for a long time.

Sheffield Wednesday and Championship rivals Coventry were also keen on Le Fondre but the Royals have appeared to have won the race.

The prolific striker scored 25 goals last season in 46 games with him having 4 goals to name already this season.
