With great thanks to Vital Rotherham editor herringthorpe, we ask a few questions on our new signing Adam Le Fondre.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) What are his strengths?
Alfie can and will score goals - he was our 'goal machine'. The first year with us he was learning from another great striker, Mark Robins, who brought him to Rotherham. The second year he was scoring for fun. What we've seen of him this year, Andy Scott has got him working all over the pitch and not just as a goal poacher. So, he probably is almost the finished article. He's also a confident young man who knows what he wants.
2) What are his weaknesses?
When he was 'just' Alfie the goal machine he tended to look lazy - but that has changed this year.
3) Do you reckon he could crack it in the Championship?
At the end of last season I was asked this and said I thought it was probably just a step too far - but now, yes, if he takes his opportunity, I can't see why he wouldn't. I am certain he will score you goals.
4) Did you think this was always going to happen?
Oh yes. When he refused to sign an extension to his contract it was inevitable really. Did we think he'd go 'down south', well, no that was a bit of a surprise to be honest.
5) How much of a blow is this in your promotion bid this season?
We are playing as a team under Andy Scott, so maybe not as much as it might have been to be honest. And, as I say, we've known since the end of last summer he would probably be off and it was just a matter of when and where. We scored three goals yesterday without Alf so, life, as they say, goes on.
Hope he does the business for you.
