Gibbs told the RFC official site: 'The new players have added quality to the squad, we lost a few players over the summer and we needed to strengthen. They've fitted in very well with this group and are looking to kick on and make an impact in the team.'

Gibbs, 45, will be in the opposite dug out to face his boyhood side Watford on Saturday, where he also made 407 appearances in 19 years at the club. It could see all of Reading's three August signings start at the Madejski Stadium.

The former England U21 international also had reserved praised for new centre back signing Kaspars Gorkss, who is set to start alongside Alex Pearce on Saturday.

'We were very, very pleased to get him and he knows what it takes to win games. He's Latvian captain, he kept 25 clean sheets in a team that won the League last year.'
