Defender awaits Ireland call
Reading defender Alex Pearce has pledged his alliance to the Republic of Ireland, despite his Scottish background and playing for the Scottish under 21's.
The 22-year old qualifies through his grandmother to play for Ireland and was watched last week against Crystal Palace by ROI boss Giovanni Trapattoni, in a match the defender kept a clean sheet.
Pearce told Sky Sports that: 'If I got a call-up for the Republic of Ireland it would be a privilege. I would love to play for the Republic of Ireland and it would be a dream come true for me and my family to play for them.'
'I heard Trapattoni was at the Crystal Palace game and it is flattering to hear he may have been watching me. I was obviously pleased I had a good performance and we kept a clean sheet.'
The academy product has been an ever present this season and has put in some fine performances, where he has formed a very solid partnership alongside Kaspars Gorkss in centre defence.
