'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McDermott determined for run in Xmas period

Reading manager Brian McDermott has said he is looking forward to the Christmas period and hopes for a good run of results which includes tough games against West Ham, Leeds and Brighton.

McDermott was speaking to Andy Gray and Richard Keys on talkSPORT some time ago about his time as Reading manager as he builds up to his 100th game in charge of the Royals.

The 50-year old said: 'I think it was a leap of faith on the Chairman's part to appoint me. But I knew I could do the job and I told him that, I think that's all he needed to hear. I was happy travelling around the world finding players, but the opportunity turned up and I thought maybe it's time.'

'Either way I was never looking to leave Reading, I loved the people that I work with and still do now. The staff, the admin staff and everybody. 'If I didn't feel I was up for it I wouldn't have put myself in for the job or put myself into the situation, but I'm comfortable now.'

It was a very interesting interview from our manager with him also making points about when he first started. He spoke about the early Plymouth demolition and the Liverpool triumph. More can be read about it on the official RFC site.
