'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pearce admits Royals' 'underdog' tag

Reading defender Alex Pearce has admitted that the Royals will be the underdogs against West Ham this Saturday as both teams will fight it out at a sell-out Madejski Stadium.

The Hammers are second in the Championship and have the best away record in the league, winning seven of their ten games and just conceding three goals.

The 23-year old told the official RFC site: 'We like to fancy ourselves at home against anyone. Top teams have come to this place and we've out played them so we'll be looking to do no different on Saturday.'

'They'll be favourites at Madejski Stadium too but we also seem to do better against the better teams. I'm sure the top teams will always say that Madejski is a tough place to go and it'll be a sell out too.'

Pearce has been in sublime form this season, forming a fantastic partnership with Kaspars Gorkss that has seen the Scotsman been watched by Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni, who Pearce is eligible for.
