McDermott: We had the will to win!

Reading manager Brian McDermott felt his team had the 'will to win' in their 1-0 triumph over Ipswich yesterday afternoon, despite the Royals boss admitting it wasn't their best performance.

An Alex Pearce header secured all three points at the Madejski Stadium against a resilient Ipswich side, who gave the Royals plenty to worry about going forward but Reading held out.

McDermott told the official RFC site: ''It was a really tough game so I'm delighted with the win. There was nothing in the first half, we didn't play particularly well, they made it really difficult and passed it well. Sometimes you have to win ugly, we've probably done that today.'

'I wouldn't say it was a vintage Reading performance, getting it wide and passing it, but sometimes you need performances like this. Attitude, desire, will to win, we had all of those things.'

It's only a one day turnaround for McDermott's side, as they prepare to face Cardiff tomorrow in South Wales. Reading fans will have fond memories of the last time they visited the Cardiff City Stadium, winning in the play-off semi-final 3-0.
