McCarthy and Howard return

McCarthy and Howard return

Reading's Alex McCarthy and Brian Howard have returned from their respective loans at Championship rivals Leeds United and Millwall.

McCarthy made six appearences for Simon Grayson's side, keeping three cleans sheets and saving a crucial penalty against Watford. However, Alex lost to his place to the returning Andy Lonergan and came back to Berkshire.

Midfielder Howard has also returned from his loan spell at Millwall, where he made 15 appearences for the Lions but failed to score a single goal.

It is expected Brian Howard will leave the club this month, after failing to appear on a regular basis under Brian McDermott. There are many Championship suitors, with Millwall reportedly keen on a permanent deal and former club Barnsley interested.
