'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McDermott hails Le Fondre impact

Reading manager Brian McDermott has praised Adam Le Fondre for his impact and his goal against Watford, which gave the Royals all three points at Vicarage Road for the first time in seven years.

The prolific-known striker hasn't had the best of luck of recent, having not scored in the past thirteen matches before yesterdays game. He has also found it hard to get a starting birth in the team with competition from Noel Hunt and Simon Church.

McDermott told the official RFC site: ' 'I'm so pleased for Alfie. How he scored it I do not know, but it's what natural goalscorers do. He's got an instinctive goal that's given us a big three points. The way he finished and the power he got on it was fabulous.'

'Players have come out of the side, big players, but others have come in and it's been seamless. Hal made the first goal for Jimmy, Adam came on and scored, Tabby came in and did a really good job. What pleased me most was the resilience and character, everything you need in the Championship to get a result.'

The Berkshire side had two previous shaky results, losing to Cardiff 3-1 and losing to League One outfit Stevenage. However, the win against the Hornets put the Royals back in the play-off places and eight points off the top two.
