Pearce: The youth cup is a big thing

Reading defender Alex Pearce has spoke out for his support for the Reading Academy boys, as they prepare to face West Brom at the Madejski Stadium tonight.

The 23-year old was a graduate himself, who is a fantastic example of what youngsters have been given their chance in the first team and taken it. Other examples are Alex McCarthy, Jem Karacan, Hal Robson-Kanu and Simon Church.

Pearce told the Reading Post: "It`s important that the first-team boys show as much commitment and support as they can as well. I remember my first game at the Mad Stad. It was for the Under-15s and we had a one-off game against Fulham.'

'I remember when I played in the Youth Cup and it`s a big thing when you`re that age. I was very nervous, but also excited. You learn a lot about yourself and whether you can play on the big stage.'

Some of the players mentioned above will be in the megastore before the game to sign autographs and pose for pictures for all fans before the game, which will kick off at 7pm tonight.
