Royals set for Russian takeover?

Reading could be set for a shock £40 million takeover from Russian billionaire Anton Zingarevich, following Sir John Madejski's statement that the club have agreed an initial agreement with Thames Sports Investment, according to the Daily Mail.

These reports along with our Chairman's statement have prompted various responses of excitement and confusion. The identity of the company 'Thames Sports Investment' still remains very unknown, with the club very cautious to say anything on the matter.

Mr Madejski's statement was as follows on the official RFC site: 'I am pleased to announce that I have today entered into an initial agreement with Thames Sports Investment that may lead to an investment in Reading Football Club.'

'For the avoidance of doubt, I would like to emphasise that I will continue as Chairman of the club, and the club will continue to operate in the same prudent and business-like manner that it always has. No further announcements can be made until a binding agreement has been reached.'

The Mail reported that Zingarevich will buy a 51% share in the club for £40 million, which will automatically complete a takeover of the club. It also mentioned that Royals manager Brian McDermott flew to Milan to meet the club's prospective owners about the clubs current stature.

Zingarevich has reportedly signed the deal on Friday and has said that once the takeover is completed, McDermott remain manager of the club. The Russian tycoon was also educated in Reading before moving onto university in America.

Sir John Madejski has publicly admitted that he is keen to sell the club but has emphasised that they have to be right for the club with 'deep pockets'. It may all be up in the air at the moment but one thing is for sure, we can all trust in Madejski to do the right thing for our club.

greetings from a Pompey fan in peace...i think you should be very cautious, as the world knows we had Sasha Gaydamak a few years back and thought we were the new Chelsea... SG still has a stranglehold on our club, which has led to a sequence of various dodgy geazers-all with links to the Gaydamak family who have earned theor fortune in the tranlatioin buisness ( that is Money laundering and gun running) Football clubs provide a perfect vehicle to launder money.. http://www.rumafia.com/index.php this may be a bit sensationalist..but worth a read aboutyour new benfactor...Oh and i would'nt rely on the leagues Fit and Proper Persons test.... One other thing- Reading has always been one of my "other " teams..i used to attend the Elm Park for games and remember watching Steve death in goal in the 70's ..as i am a basingstoke boy originally so im not peeing on yer party..just warning you thats all..we have been in this mess now for some years

Hi Graham. I agree that sometimes this sort of situation can work either way. When from the outside it may seem all fine and dandy, when internally there can be severe complications. The thing that us Reading fans are keeping in mind is that Madejski wouldn't sell if he didn't trust this guy, he has wanted to sell for a long time but has said the offer has to be right. Of course he doesn't exactly know the intentions of these potential owner(s) but we have always trusted in Madejski. I'm also glad to see you guys are starting to get back on your feet now and out of that relegation zone, you guys should be so proud of the revival you have made in the past few months.

Reading outclassed by Preston

Reading's last home game of the season ended with defeat and made it 3 home defeats in a row.

Preston came to the Mad Stad and simply were the better side and should've won by more.
