Left-back signs new deal

Reading defender Joseph Mills has signed a two-and-a-half year extension to his current deal, which will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2014.

The 22-year old originally signed a one-year deal, following his free transfer move from Championship rivals Southampton. However, Royals boss Brian McDermott has been impressed with his progress, deciding to extend the youngsters deal.

The brother of former Reading player Matt, was a regular in the first-team a few months back before injury hindered his progress and eventually lost his place to the experienced Ian Harte, with competition also posing from Andy Griffin who can play on the left side of defence.

He has made 11 appearances for the Royals in the left-back spot but is yet to score for the Berkshire side. Joseph can also can further forward on the left-wing and has also played at England youth international level for both the U17s and U18s.
