Reading boss delighted with bounceback victory

Reading manager Brian McDermott has admitted he his ecstatic with his side's performance against Barnsley and getting back to winning ways.

The Royals put in a promotion-worthy performance, as they demolished Barnsley 4-0 at Oakwell. Catpain Jobi McAnuff broke the deadlock just after the break, before Karacan scored two, one of which was a superb 25-yard effort. Man of the Match Jason Roberts then rounded off the scoring with a goal of his own on 90 minutes.

McDermott told the official RFC site: 'For the first half hour, they made it very difficult for us to pass it and play the way we want to play and it knocked our rhythm a little bit. Having said that we had a couple of chances early on and we just felt if we kept going, got the ball down and passed it more, we'd win the game.'

'We came out for the second half, knowing we would get stronger, we generally do in games and in the season in general! The first goal was really important. But once we got the first goal early in the second half I felt there was only going to be one winner. And I'm really pleased for Jason there at the end. We played some good football and scored some very good goals.'

The victory keeps Reading in second place, three points ahead of West Ham in third who drew at Leeds. It is once again a quick turn around for the Royals, who once again play up north against Peterborough United. Darren Ferguson's side are currently in 18th place and struggling for some consistency in the league.
