'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Royals boss not fazed by media attention

Reading boss Brian McDermott has said he not concerned about the increased media attention through being in the Premier League.

The 51-year old is witnessing Premier League management for the first time in his managerial tenure, despite working behind the scenes in the Steve Coppell era six years ago. Along with the standard of football, the complexion and extent of media attention will also change dramatically.

Speaking to the official RFC site, McDermott said: 'I just think it's more cameras and more TV, I don't think it'll be difficult. Is it something I relish? No, but I get on with it. It's not my cup of tea, not why I'm in it. If I could just do the football I'd be happy! If people say to me something will be tough.'

'I just deal with what's in front of me. The focus won't change. Everything is also scrutinised at the top of the Championship, at the start of the season. You're asked questions, but you just listen to your staff, players and your gut. What happens at 3pm is what matters to me.'
