Keeper set for Pompey loan
Reading goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen is set to join cash-strapped club Portsmouth on loan, Brian McDermott has confirmed.
The 23-year old is currently third-choice at the Madejski Stadium and Royals boss McDermott is keen to send him on loan to gain valuable experience. The League One side are in desperate need of players in the build up to the new season, but have taken a variety of players on trail, with former player Brian Howard on that list.
This move could pave the way for free-agent Stuart Taylor to make the move to Berkshire, after having a trial period with the Premier League new boys. Fellow goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is also likely to make a loan move to the Championship in the coming weeks, having already had successful spells with Leeds United and Ipswich Town last campaign.
Andersen, a Danish U21 international, has shown great signs of promise despite having not made an appearance for Reading. He was named the Best Goalkeeper in the 2010 U21 Toulon Tournament and during his spell with League One side Bristol Rovers, won the club's Young Player of the Year and came third in the overall Player of the Year poll.
