Veteran Reading midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson is set for a new deal at the club, after Royals boss Brian McDermott revealed he is still a part of his plans.
The 36-year old is currently with the Royals squad on their pre-season tour of Portugal, despite not yet agreeing a renewed contract with Reading. However, McDermott has said that the former Iceland international still has a role to play at the club and is more than likely to be in the Royals' 25-man submitted squad-list for the new Premier League season.
Speaking to GetReading, McDermott said: "He will definitely get something at this football club. My gut feeling is that he will be in the 25-man squad too.If you look at the numbers, right now we`re up to 23. Players like Sean Morrison, Jordan Obita and Karl Sheppard don`t count among that as they`re under 21, so there is a strong chance Bryn will be in."
Gunnarsson has previously stated he may have to leave the Madejski Stadium to get regular first-team football, in the final years of his playing career. The former Watford player has also dismissed the idea of a coaching role, despite links to the Iceland U21 managerial post. Bryn will no doubt he an influential and experience figure among the players, irrelevant of his age.
