With great thanks to Sports Interactive developer and Watford fan David (@davecrammond), we ask a few questions on our new signing Adrian Mariappa. We asked about what sort of player he is and whether he can cope with the demands of Premier League football.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1) In a nutshell, what sort of a player are we getting?
A hardworking, physical, pacey, centre back.
2) After spending his whole career at Watford, do you begrudge him this move?
Clearly as a Watford fan I am sad to see him leave. I`ve watched him as he`s come through the ranks to become our captain. Do I begrudge his move? No, he wants/deserves premier league football and it`s his time to follow Ashley (Young) to the big time.
3) What are his strengths?
He`s got good physical attributes, so he`s quick and can stand up to a challenge but his main strength is his positioning and anticipation, this more than made up for his lack of height for a CB (5ft 10``).
4) What are his weaknesses?
This is a tough one, in recent seasons he has been our most consistent performer so it is hard to think of a particular trait which has let him down. I`d say that he could score more from set pieces as he gets into some great positions and his shot is a little wayward!
5) Do you feel he is capable of playing in the Premier League?
Yes, definitely, he`ll take a few games to adapt but I think he`ll do just fine!
