'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Clarke denies Royals bid

West Brom head coach Steve Clarke has denied any bid's for his star striker Shane Long, with Reading reportedly making a bid.

The 25-year old has reportedly been subject of a 5.5 million bid from his former employers, with Royals boss Brian McDermott publicly admitting he would welcome Long back to the club with open arms. However, newly-appointed coach Clarke is keen to keep the Irish international, who has been a big hit at The Hawthorns.

Speaking to the Official Albion website, Clarke said: 'We`ve had absolutely nothing on Shane. There have been no bids and he`s not for sale. He`s 100 per cent part of my plans." Many say that players should not return to their former club, but could this move be an exception? Did Long play his best football under McDermott's system?
