Reading have signed young Hungarian defender Peter Mate from Debreceni VSC on a season long loan deal in an attempt to ease their lack of cover at the back.
The highly rated 21 year old has vast experience already having played in Champions league qualifiers against Manchester United and helping his club team to back to back titles, as well as being capped at Under 21 level for Hungary.
Mate told Readingfc.co.uk, 'I am very happy to sign for Reading. When I was young I dreamed of playing in the Premiership and now that dream has come true.'
Reading Director of Football Nick Hammond added, 'He has great potential and all the attributes to make an impact'.
Mate will provide much needed cover for the Royals in defence, where they have already been exposed this season with Sonko's ban and Sodje's inexperienced showing at Wigan. Mate will now link up with the Hungary under-21 squad ahead of next Wednesday`s Uefa u21 championship against Russia.
The Reserves edged out Aston Villa this evening thanks to goals from Shane Long and Simon Cox, although the major news from the game is that Glen Little came through 77 minutes of action, while new signing Ulises De La Cruz completed a full 90 minute debut.
The Club's annual open day proved a big success with over 4,000 fans turning up to meet their heroes and watch the reserve team in action.
