McCarthy starts in Ireland friendly

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy will start in goal for Reading's friendly against Irish side Bray Wanderers.

The Royals have travelled to Ireland to face the Irish Premier Division side, who recently sold young-promising defender Pierce Sweeney to the Premier League outfit. With Reading's game at Sunderland postponed, this gave McDermott a chance to some of his fringe players, after playing his strongest side against Peterborough in the Capital One Cup.
