'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brian looking at positives in defeat

Reading manager Brian McDermott has admitted he side played better than they did against Spurs last week in their defeat to West Brom, but is concerned at the lack of chances created.

The former Slough boss witnessed his side lose their third straight Premier League game, thanks to a 71st minute winner from Romelu Lukaku at the Hawthorns. Despite having a fair share of the ball against Steve Clarke's side, the Royals failed to create any clear cut openings for their strike force.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: 'We have to take the positives. We were better than we were against Spurs, but I know we are better with the ball than we're showing at this moment in time. We need to create more chances, be braver with the ball and have more touches in and around their box.'

'This league is unforgiving. Alex McCarthy played well in goal, but he didn't have a chance for the goal - we should have blocked the shot. I know they hit the post in the first half, but there wasn't much in it and they will regard that as an ugly win. We wanted it to be an ugly win that went our way.'
