'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Guthrie admits disappointment

Reading midfielder Danny Guthrie has said he is disappointed to have been dropped from the side, admitting he will have to adapt his style of play to get back in.

The 25-year old was dropped to the bench for Saturday's game against his former side Newcastle, with Jem Karacan preferred after a good performance against QPR in the week. With Guthrie being an attacking-minded midfielder and often coming from deep to get the ball, McDermott feels it is leaving too many gaps in the midfield.

Guthrie took to his Twitter account to voice his disappointment, saying to his 132,000 followers: 'Great point today and performance from the boys - for those asking I'm bitterly disappointed not to play. I'm trying to fit into the direct style of play the manager wants and I pass to much at the minute which is my best asset.'

'I understand what the manger wants but stopping habits like going and getting the ball of the back four is difficult. I will adapt to what is asked of me.... The most important thing is the team!!!! On the other hand great to see some old friends and team mates and that famous away toon army.'
