Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is very much looking forward to facing Liverpool on Saturday, saying to play at Anfield is a dream come true.
The 22-year old has asserted himself as the first choice goalkeeper in recent matches, with some very accomplished performances between the sticks. McCarthy's outstanding display against Swansea two weeks ago gave the keeper some superb recognition, with some optimists even mentioning a possible England call-up for the Royals academy product.
Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McCarthy said: 'It's a massive game. These are the ones that you look forward to in your career so I really can't wait. Going out on loan has got me to where I am now. It's a huge club so you kind of have to pinch yourself - but we played Man City and Everton in the cup before so we'll be prepared.'
'I've played at Anfield before in a youth game but playing in the Premier League with a full crowd will be unbelievable. We've gone three games unbeaten so you could say that it's a good time to play Liverpool. Hopefully we can take the positives out of the previous games and get a good result.'
Federici will certainly be wondering when he will next be getting back in the side after witnessing Alex's recent performances, as he doesn't look like he is giving up that place anytime soon! I for many am pleased that McCarthy is finally grasping his chance, after patiently waiting in the wings to have this opportunity at Premier League football.
