Reading defender Shaun Cummings has said that the Royals squad need to prove they deserve to be playing in the Premier League and comments on his former manager Brendan Rodgers.
The 23-year old will also need to prove himself to Royals boss Brian McDermott, after being selected over summer signing Chris Gunter for the past couple of games. Cummings was brought to the Madejski Stadium back in 2009 by Brendan Rodgers, after he worked with the right-back during his tenure with Chelsea.
Speaking to Jonathan Low of the Reading Post, Cummings said: "I know Brendan Rodgers really well. It will be the same game plan of keeping the ball and passing it around. We had that against Swansea in our last league game so looking back on that, we are going to take the Liverpool match in a similar way.'
'They`re going to want to keep and pass the ball. It`s about focusing on what we`ve got to do. We don`t like to think too much into what this Liverpool side can do. They have been in the Premier League for a number of years now, so we`ve got to prove ourselves and show why we deserve to be in the league as well."
I haven't been massively impressed by the start of Chris Gunter, so I believe it was fair of McDermott to bring Shaun into the team after the part he played in last year's campaign. Despite this, he must work on his positioning as he often gets caught out in the box by losing his man.
