Reading defender Alex Pearce is to have contract discussions with the Premier League side this week, over securing his long-term future at the Madejski Stadium.
The 23-year old played an integral part in the Royals' opening games of the season, but during October, Pearce was dropped from the side. With his form not appearing to be lacking, reports stated that McDermott did not want to play the Republic of Ireland international due to his hesitancy to sign a new contract.
Pearce, who was voted Reading's Player of the Season in last seasons campaign, is also reportedly being monitored by Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. Rodgers made Pearce first-team captain during his six-month tenure with the Berkshire side in 2009, and is looking for a younger alternative to the ever-aging Jamie Carragher.
I have always been a big fan of Pearce, believing he could possibly go down as a Reading legend, but it's a shame that these contract disputes appear to be over-shadowing his true ability and passion for the club. Many Royals fans hope the situation will be sorted out soon and for him to return to the side in the coming weeks.
