Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has said that the Royals should not embark on a January spending spree, saying it could ruin the club's current team spirit.
The 27-year old is one of the longest serving Royals players, having been at the club since 2005. Federici made his first Premier League appearance since the start of September against Norwich on Saturday and kept the Royals' first clean sheet of the season. However, he doesn't believe a January spending spree will solve Reading's current problems.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Australian international said: 'We've been together as a good squad for a long time now. We have added a few players but I think there is a danger when you add too many players into a squad - you kind of break that team spirit. It's something we have here in abundance.'
'You have to be careful who you bring in, the sort of characters that come in. It's alright for people who sit far away from the game and say, 'I want that player and that player'. But you need to look at their personalities and think, 'Are they going to fit into the group' before bringing in any players.'
Feders does make a good point in that it has been our club ethos in recent seasons and is most likely a key reason under our recent success. Danny Guthrie is a crucial example of how some don't fit into this 'ethos' and will be victimised for because of it, although some feel he is being used a scapegoat. Do we need to spend big in January or not?
