Royals defender signs new deal

Sadly not Alex Pearce, but fellow Reading defender Shaun Cummings has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The new deal will keep the 23-year old at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2015, with his previous deal set to run out at the end of this current season. Shaun has comfortably made the step-up to Premier League football, after playing an integral part in last season's campaign.

The London-born defender was brought to the club in 2009 from Chelsea, under former boss Brendan Rodgers, but it look Cummings a while to find his feet at the Berkshire club. However, under Brian McDermott, he has featured more heavily and has shown dramatic improvements in his game.

I still can't choose between him and Gunter for the starting place, despite the both of them receiving criticism. I don't think either of them have been helped by the winger in front of them in recent games, considering our right has been exploited quite regularly.
