'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Guthrie's Royals future in major doubt

It is unlikely we will see Danny Guthrie in a Reading shirt again, after he refused to play in yesterdays loss to Sunderland.

The 25-year old joined the club in the summer and had a decent start to his spell in a Royals shirt, but has not played since the 20th October against Liverpool. Guthrie tweeted that he was looking forward to the next game a few days ago, but when quizzed about his omission, Brian said he refused to travel with the squad.

Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire, McDermott said: 'Danny decided his head was not right to travel. You'll have to ask him why that is. It's not helpful as we need our players going in the right direction. Danny was definitely going to be involved. This is not a conversation for now. I will have to see where we are in the week and wait and see.'

'He texted me to apologise later that night, it is an unfortunate situation to say the least. The most important thing to me is the group and the spirit and that will never change. The individual's ego has to go out of the window. That's why we've been successful over the past few years. That's why we've done so well over the past three years.'

There is no doubt Guthrie has been treated badly by McDermott over the past couple of months, but refusing to play as 'his head isn't right' is a load of rubbish. If this is true, I don't really want to see him in a Reading shirt again and you can rip up his contract too, surely being viable for a sackable offence.
