'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Royals boss reveals Guthrie squad apology

Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed that midfielder Danny Guthrie has apoligised to the entire squad, for his actions earlier in the week.

The 25-year old refused to travel to Sunderland on Monday night, claiming his 'head wasn't right' to take part in the game. Danny hasn't played since the 20th October against Liverpool and has become frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities. However, Brian revealed that Danny apoligised to the entire squad yesterday morning.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: 'Importantly, we can all put this to bed now. Every person in life makes mistakes and Danny apologised to all of his teammates and the staff in a group meeting today. He asked me if he could speak to the entire group before training.'

'It took a lot of courage for him to do that and he deserves respect for his reaction. Now myself, the players and staff will all move on. We have 22 games ahead of us and together as one unit we can achieve our goals for Reading Football Club and for you the supporters.'

I hope we can all put this behind us now, even though some won't be as willing to forget these incidents. People can doubt his attitude, but there is no doubting his ability on his the football field and it's that ability that is going to be needed to try and keep us in this division for the short-term.
