'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McDermott proposes 'time out' idea

Reading manager Brian McDermott would be in favour of a mid-match break, in similar circumstances to American Football.

In the NFL, coaches of the teams can call for 'time-out' during the game, to address crucial points to their players. It has never been considered by any of the major footballing bodies, but the former Slough Town boss feels that several benefits can be extracted from it.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the proposed idea, McDermott said: 'One of the things that would be good to have a time-out. I`ve always felt there should be one time-out in football. I know there`s half-time but if it was all going pear-shaped after 60 minutes it would be nice to have a time-out.'

I'm not really sure about this being implemented, in terms of sportsmanship and the general flow of the game. It always has and always should be the 45 minutes each half and the fifteen minute break in the middle, to introduce a 'time-out' rule is quite silly and can have notable repercussions.
