Reading manager Brian McDermott has vowed to Jay Tabb that he will do 'right for him', after the midfielder has been told he can leave the club this month.
The 28-year old has made 12 appearances for the Royals this season and impressed during his tenure in the starting XI. However, with the signings of centre midfield duo Daniel Carrico and Hope Akpan, it leaves Jay firmly down the pecking order at the Madejski Stadium and has been advised by McDermott to depart the club this month.
Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: 'I spoke to Jay, he is a fantastic person and I need to do right by him. I said to him if an opportunity comes your way that is right and the clubs do a deal, I will not stand in your way. Make no mistake, I rate him very highly. At this moment in time he`s not been offered a contract.'
'I`m trying to do right by him, it`s a fine balance. The last thing I would want to happen - and it may well not - is to come to the summer and Jay is stuck in the queue with a lot of players. We've signed Hope and Daniel, we have five or six midfield players, I want to do right by him and I will do right by him.'
This has been met with major criticism from many Royals fans, which you can argue is fair. During our bad run, Tabby worked his backside off for the team and justified his stay in the team. However, his technical qualities as a player do have to be questioned, especially as it's what we have been lacking in this division so far.
