Gardner slates 'long-ball' Reading

Sunderland defender (debatable) Craig Gardner has blasted Reading's style of play after his sides defeat to the Royals.

The Black Cats lost 2-1 to Brian McDermott's sides at the Madejski Stadium, thanks to a brace from the impressive Jimmy Kebe. Gardner scored the equaliser from the spot for Sunderland, but his side then conceded five minutes from time, leaving Berkshire with nothing.

Speaking to the The Telegraph, Gardner said: 'It wasn`t football; it was a fight. They were just hoofing everything - from the goalkeeper, from free-kicks. The whole time, everything was going into the box. We defended it brilliantly until the last 10 minutes. To concede a goal like that, just deflates you."

It very much seems like a case of sour grapes and pot calling the kettle black from Gardner, who looked a sorry excuse for a right back. The stats actually show that Sunderland had a higher percentage of long balls in the game with 17%, while 14% of Reading's passes were long balls.
